FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A small depression over northern New Zealand is moving south-east, and a frontal zone is crossing New Zealand from the Tasman Sea. Forecast:

Canterbury and the Kaikoura Coast.— Light or moderate winds, north-easterlies prevailing near the coast, north-westerlies at times inland; fine; mild inland. Central Marlborough, the Sounds, Nelson. —Moderate westerlies predominating; cloudy; clearing and becoming fine; mild afternoon temperatures.

West Coast.—Moderate winds, mainly westerlies; partly cloudy; moderate temperatures.

Outlook; some rain in the west; fine in the east.
