SUPPORT IN WAIKATO
Contraceptive Decision
fN.Z. Press Association)
HAMILTON, August 26.
Qualified support for the decision of the Canterbury University Students’ Association to install contraceptive vending machines was given today by the president of the Waikato University Students’ Association (Mr R. M. Naumann). But the Waikato University chaplain, the Ven. Archdeacon J. D. Hogg, said the proposal cheapened the question of sex. Mr Naumann said he thought the Canterbury decision was quite a good one and an attempt to move with the times. He said contraceptives should be more readily available to unmarried people, but he doubted whether vending machines were the most appropriate way of distributing them. He favoured their distribution through student welfare agencies, but said he had no intention at present of urging such a service at Waikato.
