Trans-Alpine Flights

The National Airways Corporation’s trans-alpine summer service will be reduced to four days a week after February 2 unless demand warrants the continuation of a daily service, according to a Nelson report The Nelson branch manager of N.A.C., Mr C. F. Bryan, said that the Friendship service would start on December 20 and continue a daily schedule seven days a week till February 2. After February 2, the Friendship service would run on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. As from December 20, the Friendship will leave Christchurch at 1 p.m. and arrive in Hokitika at 1.50 p.m. It will take-off at 2.10 p.m. and arrive back in Christchurch at 3 p.m. Fares each way will be $6.50 for adults and half-fare for children aged four to 14. Mr Bryan said it was proposed to run the Wellington to Hokitika DC3 service on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The Christchurch branch manager of N.A.C. (Mr J. E. Davies) said he was somewhat surprised at the report as the airline's flight schedule for the quarter after February 2 had not yet been published. The trans-Alpine service, he said, was still being examined in relation to that schedule.
