Touring XI Wins, 2-1
The New South Wales under--16 soccer team began its South Island tour by beating Canterbury under-16s, 2-1, at English Park on Saturday. All the goals were scored In the first half, N.S.W. taking the lead after five minutes when the Canterbury half-back, D. Hill, put through his own goal under pressure. G. Dacombe equalised for Canterbury and the N.S.W. centre-forward, G. Winchester, put N.S.W. back Into a winning lead. After matches in Marlborough (today) and Nelson (tomorrow), the Australian team will play at Rangiora on Thursday (2.30 S.m.), against a team selected y the president of the Canterbury Football Association's Junior management committee (Mr A. Fraser). The team is:
G. Crabbe (Hillmorton H.S.); T. Haydon (Christchurch B. P. Hyland (Technical, captain); K. Doorenbal (Linwood H.S.), K. Squire (Christchurch 8.H.5.), J. Gilmour (Rangiora H.S.); P. Whelan (Shamrock), G. Carr (Rangiora H.S.), N. France (Linwood H.S.), C. Wiltshire (Hagley H.S.), P. Noonan (Shamrock). Reserves: D. Mansbridge, D. Dempsey (Christchurch 8.5.5.).
Soccer Times Changed
Because of the tightness of the southern league soccer championship and the decisive match to be played between Christchurch Cdty and Rangers, the majority of next Saturday’s senior competition games have been changed to 1 p.m. starts. The only matches not affected are those between City and Rangers, 2.45 p.m. at English Park, Technical (Chri»tchurch\ and Technical (Dunedin), 2.45 p.m. at Riccarton Domain, and Ashburton v. Watersiders, in the third division, at Ashburton, 2 p.m.
UNDER-20 SQUAD
A squad of 10 players has been named by Mr R. Storer for the Canterbury under-20 soccer team to play Otago un-der-208 in the Ruddlman Cup matches on September 14 and 21. The players are: S. Cooper, G. Chellow, W. Chisholm, P. Hyland, N. Mclntosh, C. Pickrill, N. Withers, J. Stevens, G. Storer, S. McAlpine, R. Stewart, C. Cawley, M. Ellis, D. Allen, R. Beaumont, G. Dacombe.
