Lustre Scott made amends for a rather dismal showing on the first day of the meeting when she beat a strong field in the Hillmorton Handicap, the second leg of the on-course double at Addington Raceway on Saturday.

Lustre Scott was about five places back on the rails for much of the race. R. T. Court, jun., tried to work her clear to challenge wide out in the run home, but she could not get into the open. He changed course twice more before sending her through on the rails. She came at a great rate and caught the pacemaker, Chief Command, close to home. Lustre Scott won by a short length. James, after being well back until late, finished at a great rate wide out to cut Chief Command out of second by a neck. Maida’s Song broke badly at the start and took no part Smart Ron Briganelli, after breaking at the start showed that he was in for a most successful season when he outclassed the field in the Addington Handicap. He trotted boldly after taking the lead near the three furlongs and was not afterwards tested, winning by five lengths from the. hot favourite, Markalan, which was

handy all the way and showed a surprising lack of dash. Cardigan Lass had every chance and held on for third, well clear of Stella Globe and Bonny Strathair. Bramble Hall finished solidly from a long way back on the home turn to justify his favouritism in the Second Improvers’ Handicap. He got up to beat Waratah by a head, with a neck to Officer Kelly, which came from last at the three furlongs. Croydon Avenue made ground for fourth a nose back, with a length and a half to Los Altos, half a length to Hagan and the same distance to Jay Queen, which covered extra ground. • Stylos, improved as a result of her race the previous week, trailed Lords throughout the Wildwood, Handicap and outfinished the four-year-old, winning by 4 length. Highfire finished better than any of the others and cut Dacron out of third by half a head, with Flight Adorian a fair fifth, ahead of Cathpete. Bad Check The hot favourite. Beat Time, was badly checked at the start, losing about 84 yards. Norlight one of the outsiders of the field, .caused a major upset when she held off

the unlucky favourite, Leading Light, by half a head in the Farewell Handicap. Norlight led over the last seven furlongs and a half and fought on gamely over the final 100 yards.
