ANGUISH.—A. J. Palmer (Oamaru) in the throes of despair after his 15ft putt on the final green at Avondale had rimmed the hole and stayed out, thereby depriving him of outright victory in the South Island golf championship yesterday. Palmer tied with F. W. Roberts (Avondale) and D. R. Beggs (Rangiora) for first place. Roberts won the title in a sudden-death play-off.
