Peter Klokker Home
The lone Danish yachtsman, Peter Klokker, who defied authorities and sailed quietly from the Estuary in June, 1962, has arrived in Denmark. It was reported in the “Politiken Weekly,” a Danish newspaper, that Mr Klokker had arrived in Kerteminde, his home town, on June 10. He was met by ■his mother and a former schoolmaster. His arrival was unheralded and he slipped quietly into port, the newspaper reported. Mr Klokker had an eventful voyage in his centreboard sloop, v Tiki, and called at many ports. Marine Department instructions not to leave New Zealand because he had no Marine Department survey and no radio transmitting equipment. He interrupted his journey to earn money whenever necessary and it is esti-
mated he covered more than 18,006 miles. After training as a carpenter, working on seal chasers in the Arctic Ocean and on cod fishing vessels off Greenland, Mr Klokker came to New Zealand hoping’ to be selected as a ”■ member of the transAntarctic expedition, but was unsuccessful because of his nationality.
