FENCING A POOL

A decorative fence adds to the setting of the home swimming pool. This one has an unusual design of alternating panels on both sides of the framework, adding ventilation, privacy and safety. It is built of textured hardboard panels.

Two-by-seven foot panels of a hardboard aiding with a textured surface were used alternately on the

i front and back of the framei work. ! A three-inch overlap permits the circulation of air

through the fence but assures complete privacy. The plan arranged for the posts to fall behind the panels facing the pool. One of the panels was hinged to form a gate. A space of about two inches at the bottom of the fence allows for drainage. Different colours were used on the alternating panels facing the pool—bittersweet and an off-white with a slight yellowish cast. The textured sides of the panels face the pool. The smooth backs, visible from the outside, were all painted bittersweet. In addition to its functions as a fence, the perimeter barrier serves as an interesting backdrop for patio furniture. Several towel rings were installed in the panels for convenience.
