CAMPING TOURS FOR AUSTRALIANS

A seasonal passenger service licence has been granted by the No. 0 Transport Licensing Authority (Mr J. M. Dwyer) to O. L. Jenkins Motors, Ltd, of Gore, to run camping tours In the North and South Islands for parties of Australians. The application by the Gore motor company was for a continuous passenger service licence.

Mr Dwyer granted the seasonal licence for December, January, and February, with a number of special conditions. These are that four service coaches may be used; that the only passengers who may be carried are members of parties organised in Australia of Australian tourists; that all passengers must be picked up at and returned to Christchurch airport, but may be transported through the Dominion; that an Inclusive charge must be made covering transport, the use of camp facilities and all meals, the meals being supplied and cooked by the applicant; that all passengers shall be accommodated only at motor camps; and that If the applicant should establish a depot at Christchurch or its environs, the provision of Regulation 30 of the Transport Licensing Regulations, 1063, shall not apply in respect of any such depot Mr Dwyer said that from the evidence the applicant was the only operator providing such a service. Shop Fittings R.M.S. Shopfitters, Ltd, of Christchurch, have been granted special permission for a new continuous goods service licence under special conditions. The special conditions are that the 40*mile rail restriction shall not apply to the carriage of the licensee’s own fully assembled glass showcases and all shop fittings for pharmacies, and the carriage of the licensee’s own tools of trade, plant and equipment to and from shopfitting contracts.
