Scientologists Call On Minister
(New Zealand Pres» Association?
WELLINGTON, August 19.
Two leading New Zealand scientologists met the Minister of Justice (Mr Hanan) today for a general discussion on the cult.
After the 25-minute meeting' Mrs D. Crundall, an assistant guardian of the organisation said nothing specific was discussed with the Minister.
“It was just a general discussion on Scientology. We regarded it as courtesy visit to let the Minister know that if he needs facts on Scientology he can get them from us,” she said. With Mrs Crundall was Sir James Hort, an Auckland physician. Earlier this year the Minister of Broadcasting (Mr Adams-Schneider), presented Parliament, with a petition on behalf of Mrs F. P. O’Donnell and more than 700 others calling for an inquiry into Scientology. The petition is expected to
be heard by the petitions committee of the House of Representatives within the next few weeks. Another Petition After the first petition another petition was presented
to Parliament by the Labour member for Auckland Central (Mr N. V. Douglas), calling for a complete inquiry into psychiatry. Mrs Crundall said neither petitions were discussed with the Minister. But she said Mr Hanan had asked if scientologists would be represented at the committee hearing of the first petition. Mrs Crundall informed the Minister that the organisation planned to send representatives to the committee hearing. Mr Hanan refused to comment on the meeting.
