TIPS FOR DUKE
(N.Z. Pregg Assn.—Copyright)
LONDON, Aug. 19. A bus conductor’s wife, Doreen Farmer, has visited the Duke of Bedford’s stately home 156 times and on every visit she tipped him £l. Mrs Farmer has become such a friend of the aristocratic Bedfords that they sometimes have her to tea. The Duke, who has thrown
his stately home, Woburn Abbey, open to the publice for a small fee, told the story of Mrs Farmer to 1700 women delegates at the opening of a conference of the International Federation of Business and Professional Women today. The Duke, somewhat embarrassed by her tips, recently sent her half the £25 he won on a Government lottery draw.
