Forest Product Raises Prices
<N Z Prsas Association) AUCKLAND, August 20. N.Z. Forest Products, Ltd, reimposed its 6 per eent price Increase on most Wbakatane cardboard products. It raised the price shortly before the price freeze was imposed but decided to revert to its old price when customers pointed out they must absorb all the increase and could pass none on because of the freeze. The managing-director (Mr R. H. Smythe) said that because his firm’s customers had been caught by the freeze it “seemed the fair thing to leave our prices alone.” Abandonment of the rise would cost the company about $BOOO a week. A spokesman for a N.Z. Forest Products customer which manufactures packaging for a wide'range of consumer goods, said nothing definite bad been decided yet about passing on the increase. A spokesman for the Auckland Manufacturers’ Association said the increase could mean some impact on lines, such as shirts, where a lot of packaging was involved.
