AGE GROUP SWIMMING

S.I. Clinic In Christchurch

The system of age group coaching clinics instituted by the Amateur Swimming Association seems certain of success, judging by the interest and enthusiasm being shown by 20 young South Islanders at present training in Christchurch.

The children, whose ages range from eight to 10, have been drawn from Southland, Otago, ’ South Canterbury, West Coast and Canterbury for eight days of instruction at the Wharenui Coronation Pool. They are being coached in freestyle and butterfly by Mr V. T. Parkhouse, and in backstroke and breaststroke by Mr J. Breward. This is the first occasion on which the coaching clinics have been held; other classes are being held at Auckland and Wellington at present. The young swimmers attending the clinics were selected by the association from performances in the national teleprinter contest last season.
