U.N. Budget For 1969
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright)
NEW YORK, August 20.
The United Nations Secre-tary-General (U Thant) has proposed a budget equivalent to $NZ125,446,000 for 1969, only marginally more than the estimated expenditure for the present year. U Thant gave a warning that additional items might later bring the budget closer to $NZ133,900,000. For 1968, the General Assembly, the authorising body, appropriated $NZ125,357,000 for expenditure. U Thant has proposed an increase of 607 in the number of the secretariat staff next year, but the Assembly’s advisory committee on administrative and budgetary questions has suggested this increase should be cut to 460. At present the secretariat has 7833 employees.
