BIRTHRIGHT AID
Birthright (Christchurch) is at present helping 182 families involving 502 children, says the president of the organisation (Mr J. R. Williams) in bis report to be presented to the fifth annual | meeting on August 22. There is an apparent increase of 21 families—but, in fact, 51 families have been removed from the roll because they no longer need help, and 72 new families have been taken on, the report says. In the Christmas-holiday period, 20 cottages were rented for families, 58 children were sent to Y.M.C.A. and Y.W.C„A. camps, and travel assistance was given to two families. Clothing Distributed Used clothing received has been distributed to families (in response to an advertisement), bicycles have been given and passed on to children after being checked and repaired, and advice and ; help with family problems, bousing, schooling, social security benefits, and budgeting and financial problems have been given to many families, the report says. The financial report shows that the excess of income over expenditure for the 10 months ended June 30 is 5163. The total income was $2661, and disbursements totalled $1912. The accumulated fund stands at $lBO9, and the life-membership reserve account at $1240.
