8.0.A.C. PLANS
Capacity To
Double
The British Overseas Airways Corporation intended doubling its carrying capacity within the next five years, it was announced in London recently. The chairman of 8.0.A.C. (Sir Giles Guthrie) said that during the five-year expansion 8.0.A.C. would probably add at least a dozen new points to its route network. Among plans were a Polar route to Japan next year, and nonstop services to Miami and Washington in 1970 and 1972 respectively. The corporation’s annual report showed that in the year ended March 31 the operating profit was just under £2om, the fifth successive year that the airline had made an operating profit. In the last four years, group profits totalled £63m.
