Taxation

Sir, —Over recent months there has been agitation from our higher income groups for changes in taxation. Indirect taxation has been advocated by the Chamber of Commerce and professional, industrial, and similar pressure groups. To give this privileged section an even higher standard of living I object to having my basic food and household requirements increased in price, and I also feel that indirect taxation will cause' further Industrial unrest, as it affects the living standards of the largest section of the people- of New Zealand. If enough people do not take sufficient interest in this development it could be pushed through Parliament without proper publicity and discussion.—Yours, etc., HOUSEWIFE. August 9, 1968.
