Woman Found Dead In House

GREYMOUTH, August 11.
The body of a woman with head injuries was found in her Dunollie home on Saturday evening by a friend.
She was MRS LAURA JONES, aged 69, a widow 7 , who lived alone.
A man has been arrested and will appear in the Greymouth Magistrate’s Court tomorrow
Mrs Jones’s house (at right) is situated in the railway housing section of Dunollie, near Runanga, but is some distance from other residences.
The body was found by Mrs P. Marshall at 10.30 p.m. on Saturday. Mrs Marshall, who had spoken to Mrs Jones by telephone the previous evening, arrived for a weekly game of cards. The telephone wires in the house were found to be cut.
After finding the body Mrs Marshall went to the nearby
| Dunollie Hotel from where two customers went to Mrs Jones’s home. Detective Inspector M. T. Churches, of Christchurch, is in charge of inquiries. Greymouth’s two C. 1.8. officers, Detective Sergeant N. J. Dennehy and Detective J. A. Howat were reinforced this morning by Detective Inspector Churches, Detective Senior-Sergeant M. Jones, Detective Sergeants J. Dawson and T. J. C. Joy, and Detectives T. O. Tozer, B. A. Smart and A. Harris, of [Christchurch.
[ A pathologist and a [search experts also travelled from Christchurch. The dead woman’s husband, Mr W. Jones, a former miner and ship’s radio officer, died last November. Mrs Jones has four adult daughters, none living in the district.
