PARADE FOR FILLIES
Daughter Of Mellay Wins
The Wingatui trainerjockey, B. J. Anderton, saddled two runners in the parade of two-year-old fillies at Ricearton on Saturday and they ran first and third. The winner was an unnamed daughter of Mellay, which stands at Anderton’s White Robe Lodge Stud, and Golden Glynis. This youngster, which carries the colours of Mr and Mrs F. C. Andrews, was much too speedy for her three rivals. She led all the way to win by two lengths. The other Anderton-trained runner was Fiver’s Pal, a halfsister, by My Pal, to the Longbeach Handicap winner, Casca. This filly was beaten for second by a neck by an unnamed daughter of Resurgent and Panoli which carries the colours Of her Wingatui owner-trainer, Mr C. H. Wallis.
Unfortunately the fourth youngster, a filly by Campo from Princess Gilpin raced by her Kaiapoi owner-trainer, Mr D. B. C. Allin, did not get the chance to show her paces against the others. She lost ground by veering to the right at the start but showed speed once under way.
