SHOTS OFF TARGET
Canterbury Beaten
(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON.
Wellington beat Canterbury. 53-50, in a women’s indoor basketball match on Saturday.
Canterbury scored seven points before Wellington opened its account, and seemed to have the game well under control. However, the inexperience of Canterbury’s younger players at foul shooting and set shooting, combined with frequent bad passes, cost it the game.
For Wellington, the former New Zealand representative, G. Jenkins, scored well from set shots, and was well supported by P. Denby. The former Nelson representative, C. Gould, played well in the centre for Wellington .and collected a lot of rebounds.
The Canterbury captain, S. Sweney. had another good game and combined well with S. Rennell. who top scored. Rennell scored well from fast breaks, but was unfortunately fouled off in the second half. Scorers:—
Wellington 53: G. Jenkins 16, T. Denby 11, J. Fraser 8, C. Gould 8, L. Black 6, A. O’Leary 2, G. Crowder 2.
Canterburv 50: S. Rennell 16, S. Sweney 14, V. Broughton 10, A. Lees 7, H. Hutton 2, D. Hesson 1.
in the curtain-raiser, Canterbury B gained a well deserved win over Wellington B, 39-31.
