Life Line May Come To U.K.

(N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent) LONDON, August 9 Central Methodist churches throughout Britain will today consider the possibility of introducing Life Line into the major cities of the country. A meeting, convened by Dr Leslie Davison, director of the home mission department of the Methodist Church, will be addressed by the Rev. Dr Alan Walker, president of Life Line International.

Life Line provides a 24hour telephone-counselling service for persons with personal, family, emotional or spiritual problems. Centres are geared to act in threatened suicide emergencies by dispatching mobile “trouble teams” in response to calls. The idea of Life Line was conceived by Dr Walker in Sydney in 1961, and has spread to all major Australian cities as well as to Christchurch and Auckland in New Zealand. There are also Life Line centres in Canada, South Africa, and the United States.
