FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A large, slow-moving anticyclone centred east of the North Island extends over much of New Zealand; a complex trough of low pressure lies over the western and southern Tasman Sea. Forecast: Buller > and Westland.—Light variable winds; mainly cloudy; some drizzle this morning and again tonight, scattered rain in the south by afternoon; moderate temperatures. Nelson and Marlborough (except the Kaikoura Coast).—North-west winds mainly moderate but strong about the Marlborough Sounds near Cook Strait; fine, with mild day temperatures. Kaikoura Coast and Canterbury.—Light or moderate northerly winds; scattered fog clearing, otherwise fine; mild in the afternoon. Outlook: rain in Buller and Westland; cloudy elsewhere.
