Golden days

'THE Canterbury Boys’ x Cricket Association is attempting to circulate as many former players as possible. The association, which celebrates its golden jubilee in October, is making its celebrations “open to all who have been connected with boys’ cricket in Canterbury ... or, indeed, anyone interested in cricket among boys.” Any me who registers for the celebrations, at a nominal fee of $l, will be entitled to a copy of the history booklet, which includes a. programme of events, and a ticket for afternoon tea at the Cricket Carnival, which is part of the celebrations. The booklet has been compiled by Mr T. W. C. Tothill, for 12 years president of the association, and now its patron. The jubilee dinner will be held at the Manhattan on Saturday, October 26,

and the association hopes that the main speaker will be a well-known Australian test cricketer. However, because negotiations are still proceeding, the Australian can not yet be named. Another of the speakers will be the chairman of the New Zealand Cricket Council Board of Control, Mr J. G.

Leggat, himself a former C.B.C.A. player. The Cricket Carnival will be on Labour Day, October 28, at Hagley Oval and the Christ’s College grounds. It will take the form of matches between present and former C.B.C.A. players, and a series of singlewicket tournaments for boys in the various C.B.C.A. grades.

Finally, there will be a jubilee presentation, also on Labour Day, to the Canterbury Cricket Association for the Hagley Sports Centre.
