In limbo

A LEGION of the lost appears to be taking shape in Canterbury Rugby. The 23-strong Canterbury B squad, announced last week, was notable more for the prominent players omitted than for those who were included. The two Old Boys forwards, L. D. Mclntosh and M. J. Millar, played for Canterbury A against West Coast in April, and were subsequently dropped. But their fall has been a heavy one, for they cannot find places in the B squad. Millar and Mclntosh are not alone in their plight. M. J. Toner (Shirley) was in the A squad for the South Canterbury match, but he is not included in either the B squad or the Canterbury Colts XV. The Southbridge wing, R. L. Wards, an original choice as a reserve back for the South Canterbury match, is another who seems to have passed into oblivion. The omission of these players is made all the more puzzling by the choice of S. C. M. Murray and R. F. Cocks for the B squad. Both have played for the A team this season when the regular choices, W. F. McCormick and P. K. Hatchwell, were not available. This still leaves a large contingent of 21 players in the running for the A team, not counting the injured players, C. R. Laidlaw and A. G. Steel, or the four missing men who appear to be caught between two stools.
