Hazlett Entries Dominate Lincoln Steeples Today

North Island stables have carried off 10 of a possible of 16 races on the first and second days of the Grand National meeting and their representatives have earned $20,980 of a total of $32,400.

The North Island total could get another substantial boost on the final day of the meeting today, but there is unlikely to be

any interruption to another marked trend at the meeting—the dominance of the Haz-lett-owned steeplechasers.

Mr W. E. Hazlett’s jumpers have been first home in every steeplechase in which the stable has been represented at the Riccarton jumping carnival. which includes the Christchurch Hunt Club’s meeting. ~ That Mosque lost his first place in the Grand National Steeplechase through his rider weighing in a pound and a half light takes little if anything away from the brilliant stable record. Now it is left to Koral. Bush Creek, and Ettrick in combination to tilt at Lincoln Steeplechase honours today and complete a notable chapter of steeplechasing history. Koral won the Lincoln in 1965 to round off a brilliant treble, the first two legs of which were the Homeby and the Grand National. Bush Creek won the Beaufort on Tuesday, and Ettrick has won the two hack steeple- ; chases at the Grand Nationali meeting. Major fla. races at the meeting have been practically i dominated by the northern I horses, and the South Island's, best will have heavy odds, against them in their attempts to recover some of i the lost ground. Northern Double? Free Pass, from Woodville, and Ruakiwi Lass, from Mata-1 mata, could bring off a top- i weights’ double today. When in opposition last i week they filled the first two i places in the Winter Cup. To-! day Free Pass will step up to j a middle distance in the Is-1 lington Handicap, and Ruakiwi Lass will again run, against the milers in the! August Handicap. The T.A.B. concession, double will be on the Isling- j ton and August Handicaps , and there will be an on- i course concession double on , the Styx Hurdles and the Longbeach Handicap. Form is analysed below, i Unless otherwise stated, it refers to races at the Grand! National or Christchurch I Hunt meetings.
