Hutt

Sir, —It was significant to note during the Hutt by. election that the Labour Party distributed a “faceless leaflet,” with no imprint, called “Birds of a Feather,” in a pathetic attempt to link Social Credit with the National Party. Yet we find in Parliament on Wednesday that when Mr V. F. Cracknell, the Social Credit leader, stated that Social Credit would create credit through the Reserve Bank for national development, his proposal was greeted with laughter by the Minister of Labour and Mr N. V. Douglas, Labour member for Auckland Central. It would seem, therefore, that the birds of a feather are the Labour and National Parties. Despite the protests of D.

Bryson, Labour is no longer regarded with confidence as an adequate alternative to National Party policies. I repeat, therefore, the Labour Party just ain’t what it used to be.—Yours, etc., SIX OR HALF-DOZEN. August 8, 1968.
