GOOD CHASE IMPRESSES

W. ■. Low,', tri. Humphry, Atanui and Corwar, and tho outstanding four-year-old, Good Chaso, drew attention to their prospects at the National meeting, which will open neat week, with bold showings at the Addington trials yesterday.

Humphrey, Atanui and Corwar showed the benefit of the racing they had at the Orari trials on July 27. The first two named won their heats of the free-for-all, with Corwar a good second in her heat.

Other sound efforts wera returned by Royal Armour, Co Pilot, Markalan, Waratah, Brigane'Ji, Seafield Countess and Dutch Courage. The trials were held in perfect weather conditions, with the track hard and fast.

Mister Chips set a sound pace for most of the first heat of the free-for-all, with Humphrey not far away in third or fourth position. Mister Chips, after taking 2min 9sec for the first mile, tired a little in the run home and Humphrey beat him comfortably by a length and a half after taking 3min 28 l-ssec for the 13 furlongs, the last half-mile in Imin 4sec.

Humphrey is going to be a leading contender in major spring events. Mister Chips, too, should go well. He is certain to improve sharply as a result' of the race.

Curragh Dan went quite well for a horse in his class and finished third, a length in front of the strong-finishing Cheeky, with Newport Maid, Demure and Kimberly Kid following. Atanui won the second heat in 3min 32 l-ssec after leading over the last nine furlongs and a half. She did not have to give of her best to win by two lengths from Good Chase, which finished boldly after being well back early. Good Chase would have reduced Atanui’s advantage had he been pushed. He will be a popular fancy for the Louisson Handicap tomorrow week. SOLID RUN Thunderina. a candidate for 2min 13sec class races at the National meeting, was prominently placed throughout and held on weM for third, a length from Good Chase and a head in front of the early leader, Black Tulip. Allakasam finished strongly for fifth, ahead of Spry and Pancho Boy. Co Pilot, which was towards the rear just after the start, was second with six furlongs left in the third heat. He waited on the field until the straight entrance and then sprinted away to win with a lot in hand by a length from Corwar, which was one of the leaders all the way. Co Pilot took 3min 33 1-ssec for the 13 furlongs, the final furlong in 31 l-ssec. He looks in great heart and should make a bold bid to win the Louisson Handicap for the second year.

Dacron paced a splendid race for third, ahead of Bass Strait, which looks close to his best. Lustre Scott and Tyrone were next. Royal Armour gave a splendid display of trotting in his race. He was always in command and although headed in the run home he did not have to give of his best to catch Aronmot and win by half a length. Royal Armour will only have to trot solidly to be a big winner this season. Aronmot, now trained by O. M. Quinlan, was driven by R. Young. He could do well at the National meeting. Johnny Gee, which looks close to his best, was a length back third, a length in front of Acquit and Tony Bear. Logan Count, after a slow start, made up ground for sixth, ahead of Uteena. Break Through broke badly and took no part. Results: —
