Stamp Sales Down

The first day of sales of the 1968 health stamp on Wednesday realised $19,803 in the Canterbury postal district, the Deputy Chief Postmaster (Mr C. V. Jury) said yesterday.

This amount is $3411 less than the figure for the first day of sales last year. It takes into account heavy buying by philatelists and the filling of advance orders canvassed by the health stamp committee of the Glenelg Health Camp. Mr Jury said that only part of the total order of stamps, which are made in Britain, arrived in Christchurch in time for the first day of sales.

One or two smaller Post Offices in the district ran out of supplies on Wednesday, but adequate supplies will be available for the rest of the campaign. The health stamp committee hopes to get a record amount this year from the sale of the stamps. Last year sales were $32,216, and in 1966, $36,383.
