MACHINERY FOR MILLS
Increase In Orders
Increased orders for machinery for the timber milling industry have been placed with a Christchurch engineering firm. In the last two weeks the Southern Cross Engineering Company, Ltd, has received orders for four large bandsaws, one of which will be used on the West Coast. Orders have come from North and South Islands and include all associated machinery such as log carriers and pneumatic equipment
There had been an increase in timber milling and a move towards modernisation of the industry, the manager of Southern Cross Engineering (Mr R. L. Stevens) said last evening. “The orders suggest a growing confidence in the economy and, of course, the timber industry is closely associated with export orders," he said.
