Sharemarket Continues To Gain Ground
The sharemarket continued to gain ground on New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday. Rises outnumbered falls two to one, in spite of an easier overseas list. Leaders on balance were firmer. Trading was active, but the range of issues was narrow.
The news that Esso-B.H.P, had discovered another oil show in Snapper A-l reached New Zealand too late to be taken into account, and B.H.P. closed 40c lower, at 2470 c, in line with earlier Australian sales. In Melbourne B.H.P. closed 10c up. Skellerup Industries gained 15c, to 615 c. Wilson Malt, which earlier in the week indicated that the whisky distillery plans might go ahead, rose another 10c, to 290 c. New Zealand Cement continued to add to recent gains and rose 5c to 185 c. The notes were 10c higher, at 265 c.
