VOLLEYBALL
Team Scores First Win University V scored its first win of the season in beating University M. 15-11, 15-11. 10-15, 7-7, in the volleyball competition last night. University N played a more even game, but University V compensated for its weaknesses with some outstanding recoveries and excellent net-work.
The second set, especially, was of a high standard, with long rallies and competent team-work. The University M player, D. Wong, was prominent with a powerful service and skilful recoveries.
For University V, T. Nguyen and T. Dzanh were at times outstanding. University A comfortably beat Bryndwr Y.M.C.A., 15-7, 15-9, 15-9. University A had the advantage of a strong attacking team, and Bryndwr often found the excellent net play difficult to handle. N. Robinson (Bryndwr) was notable for his good defensive work, and he received some able support from R. Hird.
The University players, G. Gainsford and D. Flohr, smashed well, helped by accurate setting-up from all team members. A. Waugh showed fine control. ”
G grade results were:—Training College beat Deep Freeze, 15-5, 15-12, 11-15, 7-6: University D beat Training College Girls, 15-7, 15-8, 15-4; Y.M.C.A. beat University C, 15-4, 15-5, 11-15, 15-11.
Points.—A grade: University A 10 University M 4, Bryndwr Y.M.C.A. 4, University V 2. B grade: Y.M.C.A. 11, Deep Freeze 10, Training College 10. University D 6 University Girls 5, Old Maroons 5, Fire Brigade 5, University C 1, Training College Girls 1.
