Vice-President Elected

(From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON. Mr H. H. Smith (Hawke’s Bay) was elected vice-president of the New Zealand Racing Conference yesterday. It was a four-sided contest for the post, which has been vacant since the death of Mr R. I. Sewell, of Wanganui. . Others seeking the position were Messrs F. C. Johnstone (Waikato). N. A. Thomson (Auckland), and W. A. H. Thompson (Southland). It was a contest by elimination and the first to drop out was Mr N. A. Thomson. Mr Johnstone dropped out in the second ballot and the mere experienced Mr Smith beat tbe Southlander in the final. Mr Smith had a previous term as vice-president, but was beaten by Mr Sewell in an election two years ago. Mr B. A. Whyte was re-elected president of the conference. The conference executive appointed bv the district committee, is:—Messrs U. A. Thomson (Auckland); D. W. J. Gould (Canterbury): R. C. B. Greenslade (Dunedin): E. C. Berry (Greymouth); C. H. Wynyard (Taranaki); F. C. Johnstone (Waikato); M. A. Conway (Wanganui), R. A. Whyte (Wellington).
