YEAR OF GROWTH

The last year has been one of rapid growth for the Canterbury branch of the Vintage Car Club, the president of the branch (Mr D. P. Manhart) says In his annual report. During the year there were 78 applications for membership, and another sign of the rapid expansion was the forming of a sub-branch in Ashburton. This was founded in November with 21 members, and now had 30. The subbranch would hold its first major rally next year. Events of all types had been both numerous and popular, but the lack of any speed event was unfortunate. It had been Impossible to find venues for either hill-climbs or racing events. The highlight of the year was the visit of members of the Horseless Carriage Club of America.

The club now had nearly 400 members, but only 10 women members, Mr Manhart said. The club-members’ hobby was basically a family one, and he supported a remit to the national annual meeting proposing a joint husband and wife membership category.
