Floods In Britain

(N.Z P A .-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, July 11.

The south-west counties of Devon and Cornwall, and parts of Somerset were virtually isolated from the rest of Britain by floods today. Rail, road, electricity and telephone communications were cut, a number of houses collapsed, and people were rescued from rooftops and trees.

One elderly woman was drowned in her bed at Sidmouth, Devon, when floodwaters swamped her home. Cattle and sheep died by the hundred. Unofficial estimates of the damage run into millions of pounds.
