Public Conveniences

Sir, —One cannot help thinking the Department of Health would be better employed sending its inspectors round the city’s public conveniences. Beginning with those on either side of Sydenham Park and one in Jerrold Street, these have been in an unusable condition for many years and a menace to those who risk using them. Perhaps Councillor Stillwell could be persuaded to look into this appalling state of neglect in our fair city. The present witch-hunt on barbers’ shops and rest homes could take second place to this most urgent problem, surely.—Yours, etc., R. C. STEWART. June 14. 1968. [The Town Clerk (Mr M. B. Hayes) replies: “Conveniences in parks are cleaned regularly but, as experience has shown, this does not prevent their being in an unsatisfactory condition again within a short period through misuse. The members of the staff who are concerned with the- maintenance of these conveniences are being instructed again to give special attention to their condition.”]
