No Kindlinir Needed
•‘The Press** Special Servict AUCKLAND, July 10. Most people enjoy a cheery open fire these nights but chopping the kindling wood is not such a pleasant pastime. Mrs E. L. Mclvor, of Remuera, makes her own kindling wood without putting a foot outside the door. Following the custom of her home country, Scotland, she uses old newspaper to make small firelighters. Grasping a double news page she rolls it from the longest side down, making sure to let in plenty of air. She then rolls it round her hand, leaving a tail which she
threads through to the other side, thus making a compact little wick to light Mrs Mclvor came to New Zealand from Helensburgh, near Loch Lomond in Scotland, a year ago. She has three daughters who are married to New Zealanders and two grandchildren whom she met for the first time last year. New Zealand appeals very much to Mrs Mclvor, who plans to stay here. Mrs Mclvor is interested in antiques and in Scotland she was in an antique business. Her favourite style of furniture is simple Georgian and she also likes Georgian silver.
