OLYMPIC LIFTERS

1969 Titles In Clich New Zealand’s Olympic weight-lifting representatives, j D. Oliver and J. Bolton, will: compete in Christchurch when the national championships are held next year. The Canterbury Weightlifting association will be the host for the event, it was announced at the annual general meeting of the association. Reviewing the successes during the year, the secretary, Mr A. Roy, said six New Zealand records had been broken by Canterbury lifters, with T. Ebert and A. Butcher the most successful. One of the most prominent Canterbury lifters, J. Shea, had been awarded the New Zealand trophy for the most promising middle-weight. Shea, a graduate of the University of Canterbury, hadbeen appointed lecturer in psychology at the University of Brisbane. The Canterbury association now has one of the best equipped gymnasiums in New Zealand. Three new Olympic bar bells had been acquired during the year. Officers elected were: President, Mr A.
