U.N.I.C.E.F.
Sir, —“The Press” quotes Dr Beermann as saying of U.N.LC.E.F. that “500 projects . . were expected to reach out to about 800 million underprivileged children.” Dr Beermann actually said that 800 million children needed help, but that only 5 million were reached by U.N.I.C.E.F. because of the insufficiency of the funds available. Assistance for the other 795 million is unlikely to be available until nations start spending as much on economic aid as on armaments. If women backed such a change of emphasis it might be achieved, but there is little sign that they intend to do so.—Yours, etc., MARK D. SADLER. July 8, 1968.
