Extra Rooms Granted

Approval had been granted for the Technical Institute to use rooms at the Christchurch Teachers’ College for technical classes next year, the institute’s board of governors was advised by the Education Department on Monday evening. The Institute has had the use of 16 classrooms at the college since Are swept through a teaching block at the institute. A letter of appreciation will be sent to the Teachers’ College with an offer to pay for electricity used and for the extra caretaking required. The principal (Mr D. W. Lyall) said that the student registration fee for 1969 would be $2. Some time ago the practice was introduced of reducing the fee from the normal $2 to $1 during enrolment week in the hope of encouraging a greater proportion of students to enrol at that time. The system had not made any appreciable difference, he said.
