CATHEDRAL BELLS
Peal Of 12 Suggested A report on work at present being done on six of the 10 cathedral bells was discussed at the annual meeting of the Christchurch Cathedral Society of Bellringers recently. The members of the society who were doing the work were thanked. Also discussed was the condition of the tower and the bells, and the need for a new floor for the bell chamber, to be pigeon-proof and with adjustable louvres and other improvements.
The meeting unanimously favoured investigation of the possibility of increasing the present peal from 10 to 12, as well as providing a “light eight.”
Officers elected were:— patron. Bishop W. A. Pyatt; president, Dean M. L. Underhill; master, Dr P. J. Perry; deputy-master, Mr J. H. G. Gardner; secretary-treasurer, Mr J. H. Dunn; custodiansteeple keeper, Mr A. P. Whitehead.
