The House opened yesterday afternoon with the formal announcement of the agreement between the Government, Comalco and Japanese companies on the establishment of an aluminium smelter at Bluff.
Ministers gave answers to questions.
Mr H. J. Walker (Nat., St Albans) presented a petition on behalf of R. J. Glen and 12.210 others asking for prohibition of spurs and whips on racecourses. Mr D. A. Highet (Nat, Remuera) presented a petition with 715 signatures asking that the New Zealand Legation in Moscow be reopened.
Chairmen of committees brought down recommendations on bills examined during the recess. Four bills were recommended to proceed with amendments.
The Address-in-Reply debate then proceeded.
