Wool For Miss N.Z.”

Prints and sheers, and sleeveless styles appear in the wardrobe “Miss New Zealand” (Miss Christine Antunovic) choose to take overseas for the “Miss Universe” contest in Miami. The most difficult choice was the ball gown, which is for the "make-or-break” final appearance of contestants. An Auckland designer suggested a white wool doth embroidered in wool, with flowers In shades of lemon, orange and lime, imported from Switzerland. The styling is simple—a scooped neck and slightly belled skirt The waist-line is swathed with a cummerbund of white wool which ends at the back with two sweeping tails. The neckline at the back is a wide square, dipping low to the top of the cummerbund. Patio culottes also have plenty of glamour. A zipthrough outfit the culottes are sleeveless with a standaway collar and ankle-length flaring pants. Impact is added by the choice of fabricvibrant shades in a swirl printed wool.

Cocktail Gown Ruffles frame the portrait neckline of a white wool chiffon cocktail gown. The coverup triangular shawl is also edged with a ruffle. Last year's "Miss New Zealand” (Miss Pamela Mcleod) advised Miss Antunovic to have a bright brief outfit designed for rehearsals. This has emerged as a sleeveless minl-culotte, with a belt slotted through the waistline, in orange-peel wool jersey. The rest of her outfit* came off the racks of New Zealand manufacturers’ showroom*. A sleeveless dress in cream wool goes underneath a straw-berry-pink coat and a swinging brown cape teams with a brown and gold dress. A vivid lime wool twill pant-suit with a skirt to match, was Miss Antunovlc’s first purchase. Sunny yellow and orange check a dress and jacket with ■ matching cape. Pastel blue fish-net tights coordinate a sports wear dirndle skirt in pale blue and white, worn with a matching twinset

Because so much entertaining at contests is done in the evening, short, late day dresses are important items. Miss Antunovic chose a lightweight cream wool shirt-dress with glinting buttons and a high-belted, wide skirted, model in black wool. A sheer dress in brown has lavish white frills at the neck and cuff, and a garnet red, pleated skirt, dinner dress is lit with sparkling buttons.
