Art Students End Sit-in

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON, July 9. About 200 students allowed the administrative staff back into the offices at the Hornsey College of Art today, 1 ending a six-week sit-in protest about their art education. The students voted to end their occupation after a daylong discussion with the college authorities yesterday. The governors and students reached an agreement on the composition of a commission of inquiry to examine art education, the right of students to be present at governors’ meetings, longer canteen hours, more equipment and financial aid. Meanwhile, at Guildford,

Surrey, students at the Guildford School of Art were preparing for a siege in case attempts were made to evict them from the main college building they have occupied for the last two weeks. A student committee member said: “Sixty persons have pledged their support to stay in occupation . . . We have our own internal communication, and look-outs on the roof to spot anyone coming in. We now decide who enters the building.”
