COUNTRY EVENT
Narrow Win To North North Canterbury narrowly won the Canterbury country women's basketball tournament, held at Hagley, in wet, miserable conditions. It was held to a 10-all draw by Ellesmere and finished only one point ahead of Hurunui. Final points were: North Canterbury 11, Hurunui 10, Ellesmere 9, Kaikoura 6. A team will be chosen from players who took part in the tournament to compete at Gisborne in the New Zealand championships. The manager will be Miss M. Robinson (North Canterbury) and the coach, Mrs D. E. Stevenson (Ellesmere). Results were: North Canterbury 20, Lincoln 6; Hurunui 13, Kaikoura 4; Ellesmere 10. Malvern 1; Hurunui 26. Banks Peninsula 4; North Canterbury 17, Malvern 2; Kaikoura 13, Lincoln 6; Ellesmere 10, North Canterbury 10; Kaikoura 18, Banks Peninsula 4; Hurunui 12, Malvern 2: Hurunui 12, Lincoln 6; Ellesmere 9, Banks Peninsula 5; Kaikoura 15, Malvern 8; North Canterbury 12, Hurunui 6; Ellesmere 14, Lincoln 1; Malvern 8, Banks Peninsula 4; Ellesmere 12, Kaikoura 9; North Canterbury 14, Banks Peninsula 4; Lincoln 5, Malvern 4: Hurunui 6.
