Boy Fought Fire
A 16-year-old schoolboy, William Hill, used a garden hose yesterday morning to put out a fire in the kitchen of his home in Mairehau. The fire caused considerable damage to the walls and ceiling of the kitchen but was put out before the firemen arrived at the house at 12 Bronwyn Street. The fire started when clothes drying before a heater in the kitchen caught fire. The alarm was given at 8.29 a.m. Station officers from St Albans and Headquarters congratulated the boy on the efficient way he had dealt with the outbreak. He was at home from Mairehau High School because of the mid-term break.
