Easy Win By Waterfront

Waterfront made amends for a weak showing at Washdyke last Wednesday with an easy win in the Grange Handicap at Oamaru yesterday. This was the Invercargill colt’s fourth win from his last five starts for his Bluff owners, Mr and Mrs D. G. Anderson. Waterfront gave M. J. Lawson an armchair ride. The only time he moved on the colt was well inside the last furlong when Billy Joe challenged. But a couple of kicks was all that was required to get him home by three-quarters of a length. Billy Joe was far from disgraced. He had only Willypay behind him when the field settled down and had to make a big run to reach a challenging position on the home turn. Irish Gloss, which received the run of the race, lasted for third but was three lengths away.
