Last Paris Students Evicted

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) PARIS, July 8. t Police today occupied the new faculty of medicine in Paris to evict rebellious students who took over the building more than two months ago at the height of the Left Bank riots.

Riot squads and security forces moved into the area before dawn. Armed police blocked all roads leading to the building in Rue De Saints-Peres as riot squads moved inside at first light. There was no resistance. The medical faculty was the last bastion of student extremists, who at one time held all

the main Paris university buildings. Last Friday the science faculty was occupied by police in a similar operation under cover of darkness and an Interior Ministry statement said the Government could not continue to tolerate the illegal occupation of public buildings. Riot police today silently entered the medical school by side doors, flinging open the front entrance to admit the main body of police at first light. Men of the riot squads clambered out on the roof of the building to haul down the

red flag flying there and cut off the escape of students retreating to the upper storeys. A police spokesman said that there were only a few students in the medical school when security forces moved in. Seventeen*—lncluding four girls-were detained and taken away In a police van. They offered no resistance and the whole area was completely calm, the spokesman said. The whole clearance operation took only 55 minutes from the time the police made their first move into the building.
