New Brighton Not Pressed

NEW BRIGHTON 14: B. Hobson, L. Dickson, B. Moore, R Pierce tries; G. Stanley a conversion.

BELFAST 3: G. Austin a try. New Brighton, although lacking its tisual drive and cohesion in the forwards, was never really pressed to defeat Belfast 14-3 on a greasy ground at Jellicoe Park.

New Brighton held a big territorial advantage for most of the game and only a greasy ball kept its winning margin to 11 points. The back-line, somewhat hampered by the conditions, continues to improve and is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with. The three tries scored by the backs were all grand efforts. Belfast appeared intent on breaking up attacks with spoil ing Rugby rather than mounting attacks of its own.

J. Wilkins. G. Taner and E. Leask all played well in the New Brighton pack while G. Bacon took tight heads almost at will. L. Dickson and C. Smith had good games, as did G. Stanley. L. Berghan and K. Mailau tried very hard for Belfast and at full-back D. W. Stead handled well. M. Fadden proved at times to be very elusive. Referee: Mr G, E. Albertson.
