Close Contest At Top
Although the top teams, New Brighton and Lincoln College, improved their positions in the eleventh round of the senior championship on Saturday, a close struggle has developed for the other two places in the top four when the competition is divided after two more rounds.
Linwood, in third place, has a lead of one point from
five other teams. Linwood’s steady progress from a lowly position on the table was checked by Merivale-Papanui on Saturday, the match being drawn. Christchurch could do no better than draw with Albion and Sydenham brought off a minor surprise by beating Shirley. Results were:— New Brighton 14, Belfast 3. Albion 6, Christchurch 9. Old Boys 18, Marist 9. Lincoln College 21, University B 3. University A 29, Suburbs 0. Sydenham 13, Shirley 9. Merivale-Papanui 9, Linwood 9.
