Solomon says

“T OWLINESS is young ladder,” and we did manage to climb up a few rungs last week by choosing four correctly out of seven. We are still in search of the elusive seven correct, but we face this week’s selections with some confidence. In fact, in making this week’s selections we feel like E. R. V. Heuston, describing Ireland “the place where the improbable often happens, and the impossible always.” Shirley should shade Sydenham and New Brighton must beat Belfast

University A should beat Suburbs. If it does not we expect a spontaneously, impromptu, prearranged, unorganised, controlled demonstration, from the university students. It must be time they found another topic on which to vent their feelings, and Rugby should receive some recognition. Marist will lose to Old Boys, but University B will beat Lincoln College. Merivale-Papanui will earn some reward for its consistency by beating Linwood and Albion will beat Christchurch. We were pleased to note that we and the Canterbury Rugby Union are in accord as to which will be the main game. We did think the CanterburyWellington game should be at Lancaster Park and not Rugby Park. Canterbury should win handsomely.
